Keeping Our Community Secure and Healthy in the Face of Adversity
Last month, the Lone Star state experienced devastating, once-in-a-generation winter storms that resulted in the loss of power for millions. Our power and communication lines were down, but the committed Meadow Lake team remained focused on keeping our residents warm, safe, fed, and cared for despite the circumstances we were facing along with millions of fellow Texans.
Sticking To Our Plan of Action
In anticipation of the conditions, we made a plan for all of our departments to assist our residents, whether they were living with their families or staying on campus. Our executive director, assisted living/memory care director, and night security team were on site in case the situation proved to be worse than anticipated.
While the power was out, we did not have phone service. To keep the lines of communication open among team members, we utilized walkie talkies to continue providing care. In addition, we asked team members to use their home phones to call families and provide updates on our response. With water being cut off as a result of the outages, we had a water dispenser brought over with purified water bottles for drinking only.
A Generous Staff and Community
The food service teams did a fantastic job working through many challenges to prepare and deliver hot meals to all residents. While the power was out, our fellow team member Lorena and her spouse walked a mile to campus and worked in the dark kitchen to make hot soup and mac and cheese for our residents.
We also cannot thank our neighbors and local businesses enough for their generosity. Doc Deason, Trane Technologies, Brookshire’s Food and Pharmacy, and Rep. Matt Shaffer brought over numerous generators and small heaters, which proved to be essential in keeping our residents warm.
We Appreciate Your Support
The team at Meadow Lake wishes to thank the families of our residents for their continued support and patience as we navigated the extreme weather conditions.
